The West Piedmont Planning District Commission (WPPDC) is updating the Rural Long-Range Transportation Plan for the region’s rural communities. As part of this effort, WPPDC has launched a survey to gather input from residents and stakeholders. The survey will remain open until December 30th.

The Rural Long-Range Transportation Plan analyzes key data, emerging trends, and challenges in the transportation system. It proposes solutions to enhance safety, mobility, and functionality, while recommending improvements for all modes of transportation—including bicycling, walking, and transit services where applicable.

“The Rural Long-Range Transportation Plan will help make our region’s roads safer and more user-friendly, while putting forth recommendations for travel modes for all users of the system, including those who do not or cannot drive, and moving our region forward,” stated Joe Bonanno, the WPPDC’s Senior Planner.

The plan covers all of West Piedmont’s predominantly rural region, with the exception of the Danville Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) area—which includes the City of Danville and adjacent areas of Pittsylvania County. The WPPDC serves the Counties of Franklin, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania, as well as the Cities of Danville and Martinsville.

By participating in the public survey, residents, workers, and stakeholders can help WPPDC identify deficiencies and suggest priorities for improvements across the transportation network. The survey features an interactive mapping tool that allows users to precisely pinpoint areas needing attention and propose solutions. Access the survey at https://rlrtpsurvey-wppdc.hub.arcgis.com/ or by visiting the transportation page on westpiedmontpdc.org. The survey is open until December 30th, providing a 60-day window for public input.
