Community Development

The West Piedmont Planning District Commission provides support to our local government members for community development efforts. The PDC staff works collaboratively with local governments, state and federal agencies, educational institutions, economic and workforce development organizations, and others to improve the quality of life in the West Piedmont Region. Partnering with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), the PDC provides technical assistance to our communities with initiatives funded by Community Development Block Grants for housing, economic development, community facilities, water and sewer infrastructure, and other efforts in the District.  A number of other programs and initiatives are available through DHCD  and other funding agencies to assist in community development and capacity building efforts.

Other efforts include assistance with comprehensive plans, mapping and GIS services, land use planning, strategic and vision planning, disaster planning (Hazard Mitigation Plan), and other services, as needed or requested. For further details, please contact the PDC.

Infrastructure

West Piedmont PDC provides technical assistance, grant writing, and grant administration for infrastructure improvement projects. Recent projects include Summit View Business Park Access Road, Pittsylvania County Wastewater, and Boones Mill Waterline improvements.

Revitalization

West Piedmont PDC has partnered with the Town of Boones Mill and Patrick County/Town of Stuart to security planning funds from DHCD for economic restructuring and downtown revitalizations projects in both communities. These projects create new business opportunities and build community pride.

Economic Development

As an Economic Development District, WPPDC maintains a regional economic development strategy and provides technical assistance and grant writing/administration for projects designed to improve economic development competitiveness.

Pandemic Recovery

West Piedmont PDC is supporting our communities with three Community Development Block Grant-CoronaVirus projects and a Pandemic Recovery & Economic Resilincy Planning project. These projects will provide food security, support our free clinics, and plan for a full economic recovery.

Technical Assistance

WPPDC provides a variety of technical assistance services to communities in the region. From e-commerce training to regional planning to project development, WPPDC staff find innovative and efficienct ways to assist local government and non-profit staffs to improve live in West Piedmont.
