State Transportation Plans
While local and regional planning are extremely influential in shaping the transportation network of the West Piedmont Planning District and its constituent localities, state plans often set the stage for those efforts. VTrans, Virginia’s statewide transportation plan, for example, often determines where limited resources such as funds can be allocated. This can, in turn, influence the development of regional and local plans, as well as what types of grant applications can be submitted and for what projects. This section contains a variety of state-level transportation plans that can influence regional and local transportation systems, whether it is safety improvements on high-speed U.S. Route 58 or 220, how a bike lane should be incorporated into a downtown main street, or where rail investments are likely to take place.
