Bobbin’s for Books will take place on Saturday, October 18th at the Stuart Farmers’ Market.
Everyone is invited to join the inaugural Bobbin’ for Books event on Saturday, October 18th, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Stuart Farmers’ Market in Stuart, Virginia. Hosted by Reynolds Homestead, Patrick County Library, and the West Piedmont Planning District Commission, the event aims to inspire a love of reading for all ages through engaging activities and community connection. Bobbin’ for Books will take place alongside the Apple Dumpling Festival, creating a festive atmosphere for everyone.
Each child will receive a free book and enjoy hands-on activities such as a sidewalk chalk contest and a story walk featuring the beloved book, The Leaf Thief. Children and families can meet local authors—including Pam Cobler, creator of the Kuddle Kitty Children’s Book Series—and enroll in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which delivers free monthly books to children from birth to age five.
“We are thrilled to bring Bobbin’ for Books to the Stuart Farmers’ Market and to partner with so many dedicated community organizations,” said Melanie Gilbert, Assistant Manager for Community Engagement and Education Programs at Reynolds Homestead . “Our goal is to spark a lifelong love of reading in children and families, and to make books and literacy resources accessible to everyone in our region.
The event was awarded funding from Grassroots Grants, a One Family Productions project. Grassroots Grants is a community-based granting initiative that awards microgrants to support innovative, impact-oriented projects in Patrick County and Surrounding areas. It enhances the community through education, creative placemaking, arts, and culture.
Bobbin’ for Books is the result of collaboration among participants in the 2025 Leadership Patrick County program—a nine-month initiative that fosters leadership, civic engagement, and community improvement through education and hands-on service projects.
