On Monday, April 8th, representatives from Charter Communications (Spectrum) hosted a site visit with representatives from Patrick County, West Piedmont Planning District Commission, and the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (Virginia Broadband Office) to provide a “behind the build” viewing of the progress of the physical construction of their state awarded Virginia Telecommunications Initiative (VATI) broadband project in the southwestern corner of Patrick County.
The Charter construction team provided information about the infrastructure being installed and participants were able to witness examples of both underground and aerial construction. As noted during the site visit, buildout timelines are dependent on the timely processing of permits to grant access to the rights of way for both underground and aerial infrastructure.
Charter anticipates completing construction of the VATI build by as early as the end of this year, pending any delays in the permitting process.
